How Much Space Do We Need?

Every time I travel back to Alabama, I can’t help but think of the vast differences in the ways people get around in the suburbs/rural areas compared to urban areas. What can I say? I’ve got transit on my mind, and finally, I’ve found an image that really drives home the point on how wasteful automobiles are. Read it and weep, suburbanites:


Also, read the accompanying article, and weep, suburbanites. Or better yet, carpool, or find some other way to get one less hulk of metal and its accompanying pollution off the streets.

Sigh…I’ve become an annoying militant mass transit activist.

$81 buys a monthly unlimited Metro Card for the equivalent price of 21 gallons of gas. $81 gets me pretty much everywhere I need to go for one month. 21 gallons of gas? A week and a half of driving? I’ll stop being smug now.
